What Keeps Me Sane On Mondays

Most people dread Mondays, the first working day, the start of another routine, the traffic, the chaos. But not me.

My Monday mornings come with a quiet kind of joy. While most people are still dragging their feet out of the weekend, I’m already stepping into Monday with a happy heart.

A Peaceful Start to the Week

At school, while I go about my day—teaching, managing kids, trying to stay calm with all the school politics going on, I’m at peace deep inside. Because Monday means coming back to something comforting.

Our Own Little Monday Mystery Meal

It reminds me of that cute Oswald episode. The one with the Monday Mystery Meal. Oswald walked into the diner, excited but clueless about what he’d be served. Madame Butterfly didn’t tell him the menu. Instead, she served him something surprising, made with love, and perfect in its own simple, comforting way. Oswald trusted her completely and ended up with a meal that warmed his heart more than his stomach.

That’s exactly what my Mondays feel like—unpredictable, a little messy, but full of heart. Just like Oswald, I don’t always know what’s waiting for me at the end of the school day. But I know it’s made with love. In our little world, Monday’s mystery meal isn’t just about what’s cooking; it’s about the joy of being expected, welcomed, and loved.

Our Little Monday Tradition

Mondays are special for my daughters. Their faces light up, not just because they’re home from school, but because Mondays feel a little more “together.”

And the reason is simple—my husband. Even with his only weekly off, he chooses us. He pushes his errands to before or after lunch just so he’s home when we arrive. That warm welcome, the smell of something cooking, and the joy of seeing him at the door. It’s like our own version of a surprise meal.

To my daughters, it’s only truly a Monday, in every sense of the word, when their papa is home to welcome them at the gate. Otherwise, it just doesn’t feel right.

The Longest Ride Home

By the time school gets over, I feel like flying home. Ironically, Monday also brings with it the worst traffic of the week, as if the whole world is trying to slow me down when all I want is to be home.

Still, the thought of my hubby waiting, the food warming on the stove, and the girls running inside with hungry smiles, it all makes the wait worth it.

So here’s to my kind of Monday; not dreadful, but delightful. Because when love is waiting at home, even the traffic feels a little more bearable.

What about you?

Do Mondays feel different in your home too? I’d love to hear what makes your start of the week a little brighter. Share your Monday rituals, meals, or memories in the comments below!

With warmth,

Harleen

  1. Monday of passed out student [me😭] be like:-
Woke up late – No more school bells, assembly, or that one friend yelling, “Tune Aaj fir black pehna h bhai!”

Scrolling through college options – Half confused, half pretending to be career-ready.

Parents on loop: “Beta, ab kya plan hai?”

Group chats full of memes – But also panic about entrances, college cutoffs, and “What if I don’t get in?”

Some joining classes, some chilling hard – Coaching institutes vs. “One last summer before adulting.”

Existential crisis at 10 PM – “Do I really want to do BA … or should I try content creation?”
